Why Josephine?

Josephine Baker was a superstar in the 1920s. She was a flapper, a civil rights activist, a spy for the Allied forces during World War II and the first woman of color with worldwide fame.

Josephine visited Belgrade four times. The first time in April of 1929, already as a superstar at the age of 25. Josephine returns to Belgrade three more times.  On her last visit In 1973 she visited as a UNICEF Ambassador and guest of Josip Broz Tito.

…a bit of history

Located in a building once owned by Vladimir Mitić Josephine’s glamourous Art Deco style graces the two levels of indoor seating and a luscious garden space with glazed frontage on two sides and an outside garden overlooking Mitić’s Park and Slavija Square. Nearly a century later, Josephine returns to Belgrade at the same address, breathing new life into the property to bring its exceptional spirit into the 21st Century.

Josephine Belgrade is a modern version cocktail bar and restaurant inspired by the fabulous 1920s. Glamourous and elegant interior, rich in detail, evokes the spirit of the most exclusive glamorous New York bars from the beginning of the last century.

The dominant marble bar, brass details, carved mirrors, comfortable booths with brass lamps, and illustrations of one of the most intriguing women from the 1920s, carefully selected by one of the world’s most recognized hospitality architecture studios – BARA studio

The other part of the restaurant connects to the lush and tropical garden and exudes comfort, intimacy and elegance while it’s view offers a new perspective of Belgrade and Slavija.
